Solomun: The Architect of Emotion
This is a subtitle for your new post
An exclusive HouseMusic. One conversation — diving into the art, philosophy, and pulse behind Solomun’s world of melodic house.
🎧 Origins & Inspiration
Q: Your journey from Bosnia to Hamburg has shaped your identity. How did your early life influence your relationship with music?
Solomun: I grew up surrounded by contrasts — war and peace, silence and rhythm. When I moved to Hamburg, I found myself in a melting pot of sounds. House music became a way to express emotion without words.
Q: Do you remember your first club experience?
Solomun: Yes. It was a small basement party in Hamburg — no phones, no lights, just connection. That’s when I understood what “underground” truly means.
Q: Who inspired your early sound?
Solomun: Laurent Garnier, Sven Väth, Daft Punk — they all taught me how groove can carry feeling. But cinema and human emotion inspire me just as much as other DJs.
🎚️ Sound & Style
Q: Your sets are famous for storytelling. How do you approach creating that emotional journey?
Solomun: I like to build tension slowly — to create intimacy before explosion. The most powerful drop is one that makes people close their eyes, not raise their phones.
Q: What defines your sound?
Solomun: Warmth and melancholy. I love melodies that speak, basslines that hug you. It’s about humanizing the machine.
Q: What tools do you rely on most?
Solomun: My Pioneer setup is standard, but the secret is patience. I also love the Roland TR-909 for that timeless thump.
đź’ż The DJs & Collaborations
Q: You’ve worked with and inspired many artists. Who stands out to you?
Solomun: Adriatique, Tale of Us, and Dixon — we share a language of emotion. We don’t compete; we complete each other.
Q: Any recent projects you’re excited about?
Solomun: My label Diynamic keeps me grounded. I’m mentoring younger producers and preparing new material that feels cinematic — more storytelling than club-tool.
🌍 Scene & Culture
Q: How do you see the house scene evolving?
Solomun: It’s becoming more emotional again. After years of big drops, people crave depth. I think that’s beautiful — the return of soul.
Q: Favorite cities to play?
Solomun: Tulum, Berlin, Ibiza. Each has its own heartbeat. But my home — Pacha Ibiza — will always be the temple.
Q: What makes a perfect crowd?
Solomun: Open minds. Energy you can trust. When people stop performing and start feeling, that’s perfection.
⚡ Creative Process
Q: How does inspiration strike when producing?
Solomun: Usually late at night. I imagine film scenes and build soundtracks for them. I always ask — how would this moment sound if it were music?
Q: What do you do when creativity runs dry?
Solomun: Silence. I disconnect. Inspiration only arrives when you make space for it.
🎉 Memorable Moments
Q: Which show changed you the most?
Solomun: My Boiler Room set in 2015. I didn’t expect it to go viral — I was just lost in the music. It reminded me how authenticity travels faster than hype.
Q: Craziest crowd moment?
Solomun: Playing until sunrise in Tulum, everyone barefoot in the sand. That night, the ocean clapped louder than the crowd.
🚀 The Future
Q: What’s next for you?
Solomun: More music, fewer words. I want to explore cinematic soundscapes — bring emotion back into large spaces. The next Solomun+1 season in Ibiza will reflect that: less spectacle, more feeling.
Q: Advice for upcoming DJs?
Solomun: Don’t chase trends — build emotion. The dancefloor can feel when you mean it.
“House music doesn’t age — it evolves, just like love.” — Solomun
